Ready for Fitness

Understanding your current fitness level will accomplish these three things:

  1. Give you a baseline view of where you are starting so that you can create a meaningful goal plan

  2. Prevents injuries that could sideline you before you really get started

  3. Helps you choose the right fitness app or a great workout routine

  4. Helps you choose the best eating plan based on your desired weight and body goals

A meaningful goal plan is the most essential component. Here's why: If you don't know where your destination is... you'll never get there. Everyone has a different view of what a successful fitness plan might be.

An elite athelete may want to compete at the very highest level of his or her sport.

Perhaps you or someone you know would simply like to have the strength to get out of bed or be able to walk to another room in their own house, or play with their children.

The bottom line is, take account of where YOU are and set reasonable goals for yourself. Our goals should be based on our OWN individual needs-even if they might be considered, by some, to be insignificant. The truth is, EVERY IMPROVEMENT you make is a GREAT SUCCESS.

Prevent injuries before they happen. Far too many people wind up in emergency rooms across the country because they attempted the unreasonable. Think about not only the pains, stiffness or aches that annoy you on a daily basis, but also the back that gave you trouble a couple years ago, or the not so past knee replacement or joint surgery. And, always consult a medical professional if you have or suspect you might have cardiovascular issues.

I happen to utilize three different fitness apps to track both my excersise and eating habits. This is a new development for me as I just got an Apple watch that can track all the essentials.

In addition, I also have a gym membership which helps me to burn calories and build muscle mass. Also, I am able to work on weightbearing exercises and cardio which build bone density- something I definitely need at my age.

There are many apps available that log daily food intake and track proteins, fats and carbohydrates, and calories. Also online you can find calorie calculators and calorie counting Online calorie counting websites also help determine calorie intake:

Those that are not internet or tech savy can always reley on the old-school paper and pen method.

Diet and eating plans are quite prevelant and available to everyone either online, in books and just about every magazine you see at the checkout counter. Choose one that's right for you. I will be reviewing some of these in future posts. When choosing a plan take into consideration how the plan will work with your lifestyle, work routines, family and costs. I find that no matter what system you use, the basis for all eating plans or diets is being conscious of what your intake is. So don't stress about finding the right one immediately. Any direction you take will be the right one for now.
